Lobbying may seem like a stressful endeavor, especially for those who are new to it. Anyone can be a successful lobbyist with just a little preparation. The hardest part of lobbying is doing it the first time. You have to get your foot in the door if you ever want the door to be open. Like many things in life, you just need to take the time to do it once and then it becomes much easier. Put simply, lobbying is nothing more than educating legislators about what we do and why we do it. If you can speak about your animals and your business in a professional manner, then you can be a good lobbyist.

Phil Goss has served as the President of USARK since 2013. During this time, USARK has seen unprecedented success for an advocacy organization of its size, limited resources, and short history. Phil has authored language that has turned into law at multiple levels of government in dozens of locations. He has expanded USARK’s undertakings into related regulatory issues such as CITES and the Endangered Species Act, and has made certain that USARK does more than just combat overreaching laws. USARK now promotes educational outreach and reptile conservation efforts in several ways, including fundraising and support for those matters. Phil’s dedication to herpetoculture stems from being a reptile keeper and breeder for over twenty years, having bred dozens of species under his care.
