There are no special qualifications for membership in this category, except that the applicant must be approved by the Membership Committee. Associate members may not vote or hold office. Annual dues $50.

Professional Zooculturist - This is the ultimate category for individual membership in ZAA. Members may be elected to this status from the associate category by the ZAA Board. Annual dues $75.

How can newcomers in the field become Professional Zooculturist members? By making themselves and their accomplishments known to existing Professional members. Ways to do this include attending ZAA meetings, writing articles for ZAA and other publications, and making themselves known to ZAA Professional/ Zooculturists members whenever the opportunity is available. Doesn't all this take a long time? It certainly does. There are no "instant" Professional Zooculturist. Those who have attained membership in this category have spent many years perfecting their expertise. They have earned this title.

FACILITY MEMBERSHIP

Basic facility membership requires the facility to have proper structures, security, diets, permits and paperwork, risk management, public safety, general welfare, and positive USDA inspections. Facilities with Class I animals are required to be compliant with ZAA's accreditation standards

Two sponsor letters and a site inspection by one ZAA representative are required. The site inspection is at the expense of the facility.

Non-accredited facilities must reach accredited status within five years of their membership approval.

This category does not indicate accreditation or approval of the ZAA.  All accredited facilities must maintain their facility membership to remain accredited.
